Wear Safety Eyewear Frames for Right Reasons

You Need to Wear Safety Eyewear Frames for All the Right Reasons

Unless you are extraordinarily sensitive to light, you consider Safety Eyewear Frames just as an added accessory. Treating them as something unimportant that you can live without, you often leave them at home when going outside. Truth be told, safety glasses protect your eyes from every possible harm and you should never go outside without wearing them. Recent studies show eye health problems such as cataracts, macular degeneration and a lot of other diseases are on the rise among young people. Optometrists unanimously agree that people should make it a habit to not go outside without covering their eyes properly.

Even on a cloudy day, the eyes receive enough harmful rays to absorb to get a sunburn. The problems today may not seem a big deal but as we get older, the symptoms get severe and the effects are very depressing. Wearing proper Safety Eyewear Frames that cover the eyes completely and even some skin around them is a must for hikers, bikers, and hunters. Military and police personnel must always wear at least sunglasses because they spend a lot of time out in the open. To them, it must be considered an unavoidable part of their safety gear. You don’t always need a bullet to harm you, Mother Nature has her ways to punish those who underestimate her powers.

You Don’t Need to Step in A Nuclear Plant to Be Exposed to Radiation – It’s All Around Us

People have a lot of misconceptions about radiation and how it damages our eyes like a silent killer. Most of us don’t even understand why cheap sunglasses at the convenience store have 100% UV protection. Seriously, none of us bothers about it but only buy it if the price is cheap or you look incredibly cool wearing it. But, have you ever thought why they write UV protection? Where does this UV come from and why does it have anything to do with sunglasses? The all-powerful and mighty sun is the biggest source of energy we get on the planet Earth. Sunlight, warm and beautiful it may seem is full of UV radiation and overexposure can give anyone a serious sunburn to the skin and eyes.

We all know that wearing sunscreen can keep our body safe from most of the UV rays, but we can’t rub it on our eyes. Thus, the UV protective Safety Eyewear Frames come into play and we can protect the eyes from it.

The dictionary definition states that:

  • a) Radiation is the process of transmitting energy in the form of waves or particles.
  • b) The process is termed complete when a body releases energy, transmits through a medium or space, and is absorbed by another body.

The crux of the above definitions is “is absorbed by another body”. We are the other body when the radiation emitted by the sun and transmitted through space reaches Earth, unprotected eyes absorb it and are damaged. Our eyes are the most sensitive part of the body and are super sensitive to radiation. Damaged cells in the eye do not get repaired as quickly as in the case of other body parts, thus, UV rays cause a lot of destruction but we are careless about it.

Popular Damages to Eyes – Eye Diseases

As misconceptions revolve around the effects of sunlight, the same is the case with eye problems. People fail to understand their seriousness and how they can affect our vision. Without our eyes, we cannot see and every ray of radiation makes matters worse. Here are some diseases that have become too common among people exposed to radiation.

Cataracts:

It is a buildup of a protein layer formed right on the pupil. The white cloudy layer reduces visibility and with time, starts getting thicker. With modern surgery techniques, it can be cured and the eye’s natural lens is replaced too in the surgery. If you ever feel it forming in your eyes or eye, contact your doctor immediately. Delaying the treatment can cause permanent vision loss.

Pterygium:

The white area of the eye, especially near the nose experiences a fleshy growth called pterygium. It starts spreading towards the center of the eye but it does not affect the eyesight at once. The person however constantly feels irritation and a burning sensation in the eye as in the case of a foreign object. It also affects your appearance and your eye wouldn’t be good to look at. So, you’ll have to contact your eye doctor for an appointment to get it treated.

Pinguecula:

It is often experienced before the formation of Pterygium. You’ll notice a small patch of yellow on the white portion of the eye on the cornea. It can block the flow of tears and your eyes will start getting drier. Having it on the eye proves very irritating. You’ll always feel a burning sensation in the eye and upon blinking, it feels as if something is rubbing hard against the eye.

Macular Degeneration:

The retina of the eye begins to degenerate. It affects the area where the visual sensitivity is most acute, thus, affecting visibility. As it intensifies, the vision gets so blurry you won’t even be able to recognize the face standing right in front of you.

Glaucoma:

It is a rare condition in which pressure builds up in the eye resulting in damaging the optic nerve. The optic nerve is the main connection between the eye and the brain. It sends the images to our brain which helps us to see the world. Experiencing increased pressure on the nerve, you’ll notice a reduction in vision and if not treated timely, you might suffer blindness.

Skin Cancer:

Though it may not directly fall into the category of eye disease, the reasons are the same. About 1.5 million people are diagnosed with skin cancer every year in America alone. Overexposure to UV rays and HEV rays emitted by the sun causes harm to our skin and eyes. It is always advised to wear protection.

How to Protect Your Eyes?

To protect the eyes from the sun’s radiation contains a plethora of UV and HEV rays, Safety Eyewear Frames are a must. Make sure when you are buying a pair of glasses, they are UVB protective. Sunglasses are also a form of protective glasses because they are meant to block harmful rays from entering the eyes. Sadly, due to the high use of sunglasses as a fashion accessory, the safety factor is highly compromised. To boost sales and produce more stylish designs, they are less focused on protecting the eyes. Wearing nonstandard sunglasses can make you look better, but the substandard lenses are as good as nonexistent for the UVB rays.

If your job requires you to work outside as in the case of policemen and women, construction workers, athletes, soldiers, and marines, you need to pay special attention to eye protection. Your eyes are exposed to the sun for a long time every day. Your eyes are constantly absorbing high levels of radiation, much more than they can manage to re-heal. You may not feel its adverse effects right now, but later in life, you can suffer from a variety of illnesses. Always ensure to wear Safety Eyewear Frames, not for the sake of looking good, but to protect your eyes as well.

Here are some simple ways you can protect your vision:

Healthy Diet

It is an understood fact that what you eat affects your health. Vitamins and other antioxidants are important to keep our body healthy and in perfect working condition. Eat a lot of green leafy vegetables, they replenish what our body and eyes need. The vitamins from them can help our body rebuild what has been damaged throughout the day. Fish is also very important because of the Omega oils it contains. Make it a must to have it in your diet plan.

Safety Eyewear Frames

Although the sun is one major player in harming our bodies and vision, we also have a plethora of self-created destructive devices around us. Computer screens, mobile devices, light bulbs, and a lot of other light-emitting devices produce HEV rays. We spend the majority of our time looking at these screens without realizing how dangerous they are. It is important to wear Safety Eyewear Frames even if you don’t need prescription lenses.

What Are Polarized Lenses and How Do They Help Us?

For a long time, polarized lenses have been around us. People who have used them will agree they enhance vision and reduce the amount of glare around us. But, only a few are truly aware of what they are and why are they recommended

When light rays are emitted from a source such as a light bulb, computer screen, or the sun, light is scattered in all directions. When it hits a reflective surface such as water or ice, it reflects and becomes polarized. This is a form of glare which is harmful to our eyes. In glasses, using tints enables the lenses to deflect these polarized rays and restrict them from entering our cornea. Thus, it virtually reduces the chances of harming our retina and keeps our vision protected.

In reality, glare or reflections have proven to be harmful in more ways than one. For example, shooters need to ensure they cover everything in their possession which can produce a reflection. It gives away their position and in a situation like war, it could result in a huge catastrophe.

While driving, the reflection and glare from oncoming vehicles have caused major accidents. The bright light blocks the eyes from seeing what’s ahead and it has resulted in many horrific disasters. Skiers also face a lot of problems when the light is reflected from snow. It can temporarily blind you.

While polarized lenses are great, there are some drawbacks to them too. For instance, it can cause difficulty in viewing LCD screens of mobiles, laptops, or even ATMs. By difficulty, it does not refer to blur or cause a headache. In fact, due to its ability to block out polarized rays, the screens may appear black or blank to you when they are not.

Considering a tablet or a phone, tilting it 90 degrees can counter the problem of a black screen. You will be able to view the contents very easily. But, in the case of fixed screens such as car LCDs, ATMs, boats, and flying an aircraft, tilting your head 90 degrees will not only seem awkward but can also be dangerous. Also, skiers may face problems while skiing downhill. The reflections blocked by these lenses are also blocking their judgment of the oncoming dangers they need to avoid hitting.

How to Know If You Are Buying Polarized Lenses?

If you are in a store and deciding to buy a pair of Safety Eyewear Frames but they are presumed to be polarized, you need to be sure about it. Also, you are inside the store where there is not one pair of glasses right in front of the other so you are looking at a distant object from both the glasses at the same time.

If, you can see everything clearly, tilt one frame 90 degrees offset while keeping the other one in its original position. Now, either the objects in front will become dark or you won’t be able to see them at all. This is because the polarized filter is now blocking most of the light that is coming through the glasses. If you rotate one lens pair of glasses beyond 90 degrees without experiencing a blackout, then either one or both the glasses are not polarized.

If you face a blackout or see very dark, then rotate the glasses just as you did above. If the view brightens then both glasses come with polarized lenses. But if it does not work perfectly as described here, then either one or both glasses are non-polarized. It works only if both glasses are polarized or else it can be very difficult or impossible to tell which one is and which one isn’t.

Theoretically, polarization and tints are both separate things and there is a possibility you can find polarized clear lenses. But you would be very lucky to find such a pair because no one bothers making them.

Tints Can Save Eyesight

In Safety Eyewear Frames and normal sunglasses, using tints is a common factor. However, tinted glasses aren’t a guarantee that the lenses are polarized or not. Tints and polarization are completely different and they both can be used on lenses separately without the need for another. However, tints do have the ability to block certain light rays and HEVs. Here are some popular tints that are worth your consideration.

Grey

It is one of the most widely used tints. It is because it does not alter the colours but only makes the vision a little bit dim. Hence, you aren’t affected by glare and reflections as much. It is best for use when driving and cycling because it doesn’t interfere with the colours of traffic lights. Grey does not block blue colour thus; your eyes aren’t safe from blue light.

Green

Also like the grey tint above, it does not alter the colours. It is also a neutral color but it does tend to block blue light. Blue light is also HEV thus it should be blocked as much as possible. As discussed above, blue light harms the retina and results in a lot of damage to the eyes. Having your lenses tinted green can enable you to use them for eye protection as well.

Orange / Yellow

When you need to enhance your vision in low light conditions such as night, foggy, or hazy days, using yellow tints is an ideal choice. They will help make things more clear and sharper but there is a minor drawback to it, they can distort colours. You will have to be extra careful regarding traffic lights when you are wearing glasses having yellow or orange tints. It is a colour often preferred by a player who is engaged in snowboarding or indoor games. You’ll also note that glasses for shooting purposes also come in yellow tints because of their ability to enhance vision in low-light conditions. Virtually, orange is very much similar to yellow in terms of performance. Hence, it is a personal choice to choose between the two.

Brown or Amber

In terms of performance, they are very similar to yellow and orange tints. They help enhance vision in low-light situations. But, they come with an added advantage that they can block a percentage of HEV rays. Hence, they have a combined property of all the above-mentioned tints.

Red

It possesses properties very similar to green. Hence it is a choice of players who play mostly indoor games. Since it is a bright color it can affect your appearance too. Most people look good wearing red lenses thus, they choose them because of their style. It also tends to reduce glare and does not cause eye strain. People who work long hours in front of a computer screen use it very often.

Blue

If we talk about its ability to match the performance of any above tints, it does not have any. It is only chosen because of its aesthetics. Other than style, it does not possess any special abilities.

Mirrored

To make the lenses mirrored, the outer shell is coated to give it a mirror look. The inside, however, is tinted in any choice usually, grey or brown. Mirror coating enhances the light-blocking ability by 10% to 60% depending upon the thickness and the type of coat used. Hence, these lenses are widely used by people working in bright sunlight or only as a fashion symbol. You’ll see a lot of people wearing them at the beach because they look cool and can block a lot of sunlight.

Safety Eyewear Frames Are Designed to Protect Your Eyes

Besides keeping the wearer’s eyes safe from radiation and physical damage from flying particles in the vicinity, they are also widely used by sportsmen. If you need to keep the strong wind blowing in your eyes from damaging your cornea, then you need to consider Safety Eyewear Frames. Other than that, you can trust these frames to help protect your eyes from dust, flying insects, and flying bits of steel or concrete. They are bliss for labourers, craftsmen, carpenters, construction workers, and even for people who need to do some DIY projects over the weekend.

Technically, there are two types of Safety Eyewear Frames. It depends upon the use of the wearer to define which type is suitable for him.

Basic Safety Glasses

These frames are very much like sports glasses but they have thicker lenses and frames to withstand high impacts because regular frames aren’t made for impact. They are usually more style-oriented and to keep their weight under control, lightweight materials are used which also reduces their ability to withstand high impacts.

Ballistic Safety Eyewear Frames

It doesn’t matter if you are in the army, a recreational shooter, a hunter, or belong to law enforcement agencies. When there are bullets involved, you need to have frames that can withstand high impacts very easily. The ANSI standards for safety testing state that when a high-impact particle comes in contact with the lens, it must not fall off the frame.

There are no frames that won’t break upon a direct hit of a bullet. But, wearing Ballistic eyewear frames that are appropriate for use on the battlefields is a must. They can help your eyes stay safe from dirt, reflection, and glare and even enhance your vision in low-light conditions. When aiming for a direct hit, without proper visibility, the target can never be achieved. If you’ve missed one, you’ve alerted the target and it can be very costly for the team.
