What Makes Safety Glasses Safe?
All workers need to wear safety eyewear while performing their duties. Safety glasses in the past, they were bulky and uncomfortable. The latest safety specs are very comfortable in wearing and have stylish shape. According to OSHA standard, workers should wear appropriate personal protective eyewear for those jobs where they feel a threat. These protections can be worn when users could be exposed to particles, flying debris, or hazardous liquids. Any prescription safety glasses frames or lenses if stamped with ANSI Z87 those will meet OSHA standards.
The ANSI standards set the design, testing, construction, and eye protection devices for hazards applications. The standard lenses are divided into two protection level that is basic and high impact as said by test criteria. The impact lenses pass the test of drop ball test while all eyewear face shields, frames, or crowns must meet high impact requirement.
Side shields as an important part of lenses or gets an individual component. The side shields that are available in wraparound or integrated form is highly recommended. All protective eyewear exceeds the requirements of OSHA and Z87.1 for side shields. All eyewear is not calculated as safety glasses and employers should conduct a PPE valuation. Then they should provide PPE to the workers with good information.
